Hunting With Drones

Mike Holland, the minister of Energy and Resource Development in the province of New Brunswick, says that you can’t use drones to help you hunt.

This shouldn’t really be a surprise, but apparently this needed to be said.

The New Brunswick Fish and Wildlife Act says you can’t use aircraft for hunting, except as a means of transportation, and a drone is an aircraft.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba explicitly banned drones for hunting use in 2014. It’s illegal in Nova Scotia and likely in most, if not all, Canadian provinces.

Obviously, “hunting with drones” means using drones to spot wildlife, not arming drones to kill animals. That is illegal everywhere.

In the United States, some states have banned the use of drones for hunting but it is legal in many states.
